Feature and Follow Friday #9: Hyped books

Feature and Follow is a weekly blog hop hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read!

Question of the week: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

First of all, hi everybody! *waves* It's been quite a while but I will be sorting out my irregular blog schedule soon. To say I'm missing the blogosphere is an understatement!

For me, one of the hyped books that definitely wasn't worth the um, hype was,

The Selection by Kiera Cass

I couldn't bring myself to care about any of the characters with the exception of the America's (the main character) sister. Another book that did not live up to its hype:

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

I get why this book was a guilty pleasure for so many people but somehow, I couldn't stop rolling my eyes at the various situations Travis and Abby found themselves in... though I must admit, some aspects of the book were engrossing.

Have a great weekend! Happy reading, everybody! <3

  2. Hi, new follower through GFC as lucyatmax, no pic. Please visit/follow me at: bethartfromtheheart.blogspot.com . I haven't read either selection you mentioned. I usually read books by subject matter and if it draws me in, rather than by the hype.
Nice meeting you through FF....enjoy your weekend!

  7. I don't want to read The Selection because of the drama the author caused online, but I loved Beautiful Disaster! But everyone likes different stuff :) New follower via GFC, hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

  8. I loved Beautiful Disaster but the description of The Selection never appealed to me. I could care less about the drama surrounding it on GR. I try not to base my decisions to read on that kind of ridiculousness.

A book I thought was over-hyped was The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I liked it but didn't think it was fabulous.

  9. It's been a while since I read a book based on a recommendation. I have actively avoided The Hunger Games, and Twilight. I can't stand expecting more than the writing can deliver.

    'nough said.

Thanks for giving a few reasons why you didn't think they were worth the hype. I haven't read either of these.

  17. I haven't read either of these books so I can't comment on that but definitely interesting picks! :) I've heard really mixed things about The Selection but still want to read it... Sorry to hear that it wasn't for you :/ I'm the same though, if I can't connect to the characters, it's almost always a lost cause. And... Beautiful Disaster. I've read a lot of reviews and seen some of the quotes/scenarios and I am SO not interested. Pretty scary stuff actually and definitely not for me.

Well, at least there are plenty of other books to get excited about! :D Great post, A! It's good to have you baaaaack <3
