TMST #3: On my favourite book-to-movie adaptations!

Tell Me Something Tuesday is an awesome meme hosted by Cambria Hebert!

This week's question:

Do you usually like the book better than the movie or the movie better than the book? What is your favorite book to movie adaptation you have ever seen?

I almost always like the book better! Movies just don't capture the essence of the book... It's hard to convey in two and a half hours what those carefully crafted words gave us. And too many amazing scenes get cut out. Sometimes, of course, they make this totally amazing movie that does so much justice to the book that you feel like hugging each and every cast member!

I still watch each and every movie adaptation of my favourite books in hope that it achieves such awesomeness. Even if it doesn't, it's nice to revisit the world of the book!

I am waiting for the movie versions of The Hunger Games and The Perks of being a Wallflower! I can't help the ridiculously high expectations I have for them! Especially for The Perks of being a Wallflower!

On my favourite book to movie adaptations!

Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley! I watched it with my mother when I was thirteen years old and it made me go back and read Austen's Pride and Prejudice (followed by Emma). It's such a beautifully taken movie. Parts of it still make me smile.

A Walk to Remember. I guess the movie was very different from the book. The book was sweeter, more innocent and endearing. The movie was fun... it seemed like just another teen movie with the very hot Shane West who was full of snark as Landon until the scene where Jamie told him everything and I was sobbing along with Landon. I watched the movie before I read the book. I like both the book and movie for different reasons!

The Devil Wears Prada. Need I say more? I liked the book but the movie was even better! Meryl Streep was BRILLIANT as Miranda Priestly and Emily Blunt was great too!

  3. It usually depends on which one I found first. Although, it is pretty rare that the movie beats the book.

  4. I agree the book is almost always better! However, both Pride & Prejudice and A Walk to Remember I liked the movies better. I also happened to see them both before I read the books so that could be a factor.

  5. You and me the same, Ajoop -- I almost always like the book better too! :) And you're so spot on with your reasoning! I don't think they could incorporate all those awesome details that make the book awesome into a movie unless it was three hours long or something LOL! x) But oh my gosh, I LOVED A Walk to Remember -- it made me cry so much! <3

ALSO: Eeeeeeep, I can't wait for the Hunger Games movie!!! And I'm excited to watch The Perks of Being a Wallflower too even though I haven't read the book yet because the cast is amazing! ;)

  6. Gosh, I so agree with you, Ajoop! Most of the time, the books are better than the movie adaptations! I really love Pride and Prejudice too since Keira Knightley is my favorite actress! I think the movie really captures the atmosphere of the book! Oh, and I think I like The Devil Wears Prada movie better than the book LOL! The clothes are GORGEOUS! <3

Awesome post, Ajoop! I love your movie picks! Like Mimi, I SO can't wait to watch Hunger Games! Peeta in life!! <3

  7. I am sorry I didn't make it be yesterday. I liked A Walk to Remember both movie and book and Pride and Prejudice. Devil Wears Prada, Meryl was awesome, I didn't know there was a book either. I am hoping they do a good job with the Hunger Games!

  8. I haven't seen all of these, but I did like the movie better than the book with The Devil Wears Prada.

I usually like the book better. A two hour movie usually leaves out so much, and then you have many meddlers changing the concepts of everything.

  10. @Cambria haha I read the book after the movie for Devil Wears Prada. The movie is better xD

    @kimba88 haha! Nothing beats imagination!

@thereadingpanda So true! Books mostly win though sometimes watching the movie first makes it a better experience.

@Amanda Yeah, it was the same case with me!!

@Mimi and Hilda EEEEP I KNOW! THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE FTW! I'm so excited :D I really hope it releases here. And The Perks of Being a Wallflower has so much of awesomeness potential since Stephen Chbosky is playing such a major role in its making <3

@Heidi I know finger crossed, THG is awesome!

@Medeia Sharif Uh, agreed! Hate it when they change stuff in the movie and it doesn't work!

@Morganvile94 I know, AWTR is so sad yet beautiful :,)
